Adelaide 04:10
In Canberra nothing’ll change We went 200 days and never got a drop of rain AIn’t nothing in the sky ‘cept the 18:18 to Dubai via Sydney, over night You’d ask the magpie, you’d hear the joey sigh They know something’s about to change Oh and Adelaide she brought the rain Bucketing down all over town, filled up every drain Oh and Adelaide she brought the rain To quench the thirst of this dry earth Help us grow again, She’s going to help us grow again People say “CJ, mate, that’s just climate change Some ole’ storm cell lost on the Brindabella range” Call me sceptic, but new life is all majestic I’m just suggesting it was her big ole’ eyes that sowed the sky You’d ask the bandicoot, you’d hear the owl as they hoot They know something’s about to change Oh and Adelaide she brought the rain Bucketing down all over town, filled up every drain Oh and Adelaide she brought the rain To quench the thirst of this dry earth Help us grow again, She’s going to help us grow again Into water our daughter she was born Pisces to the core, she let her wet lungs roar And then the roar went out the door, down the hall so it rained. So I can sing it again and again Oh that Adelaide she brought the rain Bucketing down all over town, filled up every drain Oh and Adelaide she brought the rain To quench the thirst of this dry earth Help us grow again, She’s going to help us grow again x 2

about

‘All Sorts’ is the latest album from ARIA nominated educator and musician CJ Shaw.

Since his song ANZAC Biscuits gained over 30 000 views on social media in 2019, eventuating in an ARIA nomination for Music Teacher of the Year 2020, CJ Shaw has been busily recording his new album ‘All Sorts’. This collection of ten songs affirms Shaw’s position as a creative and dynamic storytelling songwriter for children and adults alike.

Having spent over twenty years as a songwriter and performer, ‘All Sorts’ draws on the back catalogue that Shaw has been performing at folk clubs and festivals over the years. It is an album for the modern eclectic times, containing poignant storytelling, songs of fatherhood, hip-hop, satire and traditional folk. “I wanted an album that could connect people of different ages,” states CJ, “Everyone should be able to enjoy the music”.

‘Terminator Shades’, a stand out track on the record, is Shaw’s hip hop ode to primary school playgrounds and the chaos and characters that it presents. As a teacher Shaw wrote the song to draw his students into the world of hip hop and show the validity of their own experiences in song. “There’s no point in them singing about fast cars in Las Vegas”, says Shaw “The students have embraced the song and challenge each other to see who can rap the fastest”.

Building on the strength of his ARIA nomination, Shaw collected some of the best players and composers in the making of the new album. The lineup notably includes international composer Allyson Newman who brings her emotive arrangement to the song ‘Lonely Road’. The album also features Canberra Symphony Orchestra players Steven Fitzgerald, Alex Voorhoeve and Timothy Wickham whose musicality brings depth and precision to the record.

A collection of the best songs in CJ Shaw’s repertoire, ‘All Sorts’ is brimming with life and vitality, drawing in audiences of all ages. Dubbed the ‘ultimate family album’ for a reason,‘All Sorts’ is destined to be a family favourite on long car trips in the foreseeable future.
